I’ve been over due for the next Wardrobe Essentials post for awhile now (click here for part 1, part 2, and part 3), but as I’ve mentioned before, work clothes aren’t exactly my forte. After waiting a little too long for inspiration to strike I decided to try to style the basic pencil skirt 3 ways, none of which would include a button down (well…not one of a normal length anyway) or a blazer. Office dress seems to be the obvious choice for this particular essential, so I took it upon myself to mix it up a little.
I really love this boxy cropped blouse with the fitted skirt and pops of color in the accessories. There is something very whimsical and boyish about the whole look. Like a little boy had to get dressed up but then wouldn’t dare leave the house without his superman mask. What do you guys think?
This outfit is very “I begrudgingly chose to look good today even though I wanted to wear sweatpants”. It’s just badass. I adore the unique knit of this sweater and the fringe clutch adds just the right amount relaxed drama.
If you’re ever invited to a tea party on the upper east side, you know what to wear now. It doesn’t get much more classic than this, but the exposed skin between the crop top and skirt helps to keep it fresh.
While I absolutely love all of these outfits, it occurred to me while I was putting them together that they are quite a bit dressier than the previous wardrobe essential posts. I’ve been trying to do a casual, professional, and dressy outfit example with each piece, but there’s something about the pencil skirt that begs for a little elevation. Outside the office, it becomes a Kardashian-caliber “casual” article of clothing, don’t you think? How would you guys wear the classic pencil skirt?
Per usual, you can click on the image above to be brought to all the shopping information for the outfits.
Have a great day!
