Recently I was watching YouTube makeup tutorials (this is quickly becoming my preferred method of procrastination) and realized, much like someone attempting to recreate the Mona Lisa by finger painting, I wasn’t very educated about the various tools and brushes that are required to create the masterpiece that is a perfect face, smiling or not. Seriously, most of my makeup is in crayon form.
A quick search showed that Makeup Geek had created a tutorial on her essential brushes and how each one is used. Who knew there were so many with such specific tasks. She lists the MAC equivalent of each brush, as well as her own versions. Depending on your budget you may want to research alternative brands (the full set of all 8 MAC brushes is a whopping $233). The main takeaway is this list:
1. Flat Stiff Brush, MAC #239
2. Stiff Dome Brush, MAC #217
3. Soft Dome Brush, MAC #224
4. Pencil Brush, MAC # 219
5. Stippling Brush, MAC #187
6. Angled Blush Brush, MAC #168
7. Contour Brush (optional), MAC #109
8. Highlighter Brush, MAC #188
How many brushes do you guys use? What is your preferred brand of beauty tools?
Have a great day!
