This post is part three in a ten part series on Wardrobe Essentials (for part one, click here, for part two, click here).
Dress pants are something that I struggle with on a pretty regular basis. They are necessary for working in an office environment, and yet all too often every pair looks and feels the same: dull colors, scratchy wool, ill-fitting… just not fun to wear and even less fun to spend your hard-earned money on.
However, every now and then I find a pair that I really like. There’s just something different about them and that makes them cool. I’m really in love with the linear pattern and tapered leg on these pants by French Connection (now on sale!) and I was inspired to come up with a few outfits that can be worn outside the office.
This is a great outfit for a lazy weekend. The big cozy sweater keeps you warm and, along with the ornate earrings, is the yin to the yang of the more geometric pants and shoes. Pair with a casual backpack and big sunglasses for some hands free, don’t-look-at-me-but-do-because-I-look-amazing errand running.
Obviously I had to include something for the office, they are dress pants after all. I kept with the tailored, linear look of the pants and broke up the outfit with some simple color blocking and a more structural necklace.
This look is a little bit more trendy and fun. I started with a crop top in a great pop of color and just went from there. The accessories are fun colors, but still lady-like, which keeps the outfit from being too juvenile. I would wear this to a brunch with friends, or an art opening, anything that calls for something a little more light-hearted or fashion forward.

P.S. Feel free to wear a pair of pants like this with flats for an Audrey Hepburn vibe!
Have a great day =)
